Land of Exodus and Beauty
A documentary by Bahar Çınarlı on the personal stories of
the 1923 Population Exchange between Turkey and Greece, The Land
of Exodus and Beauty begins its journey in Güzelyurt, Turkey.
We hear from local descendants of the Turkish people as they retrace
their grandparents' resettlement from Greece...
The film is also sympathetic the plight of the Greeks who were forced
to leave Güzelyurt, which to this day remains home to spectacular
Christian-Orthodox churches, to establish a new home in Greece,
a country that was foreign to them.
In a fascinating developement, the peoples of Güzelyurt,
Turkey and Kavala, Greece have begun to visit each other, forming
new and lasting bonds, despite the tragic events that took place
two generations ago.
